What is a Passion Play?

Passion Plays are a way of retelling the last week in the life of Jesus Christ prior to his death. Perhaps the most famous Passion Play is the one in Oberammergau in Bavaria, Germany which commenced in 1634 and is now repeated on a 10 year cycle.

It is an opportunity to see the events that led up to and beyond the death of Christ. To see visually what happened, to hear and feel the emotion and reactions of the Pharisees, the ruling Roman authorities and friends and family of Jesus himself. In addition you will witness the seeming injustice of the death sentence and see the remarkable things that followed. You will then perhaps understand how certain events of 2000 years ago can be relevant in today’s world.
